Our Story

Rainbow Media Holdings LLC, a subsidiary of Cablevision Systems Corporation, has been an innovator in television programming and entertainment for 30 years. Rainbow Media owns and operates some of the world’s most popular and award-winning entertainment brands, including AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel, WE tv, Wedding Central and IFC Entertainment.

AMC reigns as the only network to ever win the Golden Globe® Award for Best Television Series - Drama three years in a row and the only basic cable network to win back-to-back Primetime Emmy® Awards for Outstanding Drama Series. Whether commemorating favorite films from every genre and decade from the most comprehensive library or creating acclaimed original productions, the AMC experience is an uncompromising celebration of great stories. AMC’s original stories include the Emmy® Award-winning dramas Mad Men and Breaking Bad, and insightful non-scripted programming such as AMC News. AMC launched in 1984 as American Movie Classics.

IFC creates and champions authentic, original content that is "Always On. Slightly Off." Since 1994, IFC has cultivated television programming that challenges the conventions of storytelling. Today, IFC continues to embrace content with an indie perspective. Original series - headlined by brand-defining scripted and sketch comedy such as The Whitest Kids ’U Know - air alongside an extraordinary collection of films and cult TV shows. Long and short-form original content inspired by music, web, gaming, animation, news, and culture is available on multiple platforms.

Sundance Channel is the television destination for independent-minded viewers seeking something different. Sundance Channel offers audiences a diverse and engaging selection of films, documentaries, and original programs, including the critically acclaimed originals Spectacle: Elvis Costello With…, Iconoclasts and Man Shops Globe. Under the creative direction of Robert Redford, Sundance Channel launched in 1996 and was acquired by Rainbow Media in 2008. Building on its success with the transactional On Demand platform, Rainbow Media launched Sundance Selects in 2009, an On Demand offering for feature and documentary films.

WE tv offers compelling, entertaining stories that focus on key life stages of a modern woman, from getting married to having children and raising a family. The network’s original programming includes the critically acclaimed, viewer favorite The Locator (the network’s most-watched series ever), the poignant, and often comical, real-life story of a family raising multiple toddlers, Raising Sextuplets, and a robust line-up of wedding series, including the hit show Bridezillas, Amazing Wedding Cakes and My Fair Wedding with David Tutera. WE tv launched in 1997 and was originally branded Romance Classics.

Wedding Central is the first and only 24/7 destination where women, who are fascinated by all things wedding related, can go to get engaged in and entertained by the aspiration and drama of weddings. The network features channel-specific series and specials that focus on dating, relationships and weddings. Wedding Central was launched in 2009.

IFC Entertainment consists of multiple brands that are devoted to bringing the best of specialty films to the largest possible audience. IFC Films is a leading distributor of independent film. IFC In Theaters, an IFC Films label, is a unique day and date distribution model that makes independent films available to a national audience by releasing them simultaneously in theaters as well as on cable’s On Demand platform. IFC Films’s genre label, IFC Midnight, features the very best in international genre cinema, including horror, sci-fi, thrillers, erotic art-house, action and more. Four new IFC Midnight films premiere each month on demand and select titles are also released in theaters at the same time as their VOD premiere. IFC Center is a five screen, state-of-the-art cinema with luxurious seating and HD digital and 35mm projection that shows art-house films in the heart of New York’s Greenwich Village.
