As executive vice president of communications, Ellen Kroner spearheads all internal and external communications for Rainbow Media. She has oversight of media and industry relations, public relations, corporate branding and marketing, public affairs and internal communications for Rainbow Media and each of its multiplatform brands, including AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel, WE tv, Wedding Central, IFC Entertainment and Sundance Selects.
Kroner’s oversight of strategic messaging for company acquisitions like the Sundance Channel, new business launches like IFC In Theaters and Sundance Selects, and network programming like AMC’s Mad Men and WE tv’s Bridezillas has helped solidify Rainbow’s image as an innovator and industry leader, fueling positive press and unprecedented industry honors and acclaim.
In 2005, Kroner led a reorganization of Rainbow’s communications structure, centralizing all communications functions into one group. Prior to her promotion, Kroner held a variety of communications positions at Rainbow, including vice president of public relations for AMC, IFC and WE tv.
Before joining Rainbow in 1998, Kroner was senior vice president of corporate communications at the talent agency ICM. There, she directed worldwide publicity for the firm, managed corporate advertising and helped develop strategic marketing plans for high profile clients. Prior to her tenure at ICM, Kroner spent three years as vice president of publicity for Sony Pictures Entertainment, where she spearheaded publicity efforts for Columbia and TriStar Pictures. Prior to that, at Rogers & Cowan, the entertainment industry’s largest publicity firm, Kroner was vice president of entertainment promotions, where she identified and executed national promotions for feature films. She also served as vice president and general manager at Seiniger Advertising, a major creator of print and audio-visual advertising campaigns to the film industry.
Kroner holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College, where she majored in communications. She is on the board of the Association of Cable Communicators (ACC) and a member of the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM) and Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT). Kroner is also an executive mentor in the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications’ (NAMIC) L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program. She is an alumna of CTAM’s executive management program, CTAM U, at the Harvard Business School. Kroner was named 2008 PR Executive of the Year by CableFax.
