Charlie Collier
President and General Manager
AMC
As president and general manager of AMC, Charlie Collier oversees every aspect of the AMC brand, spearheading the multiplatform network, which is available on-air, online, on demand and via mobile applications. Collier was named to this post in November 2008.
Collier joined AMC in 2006 as executive vice president and general manager. Since then he has been the driving force behind the network’s continued evolution and success. Under Collier’s leadership, AMC has garnered critical acclaim and record-breaking ratings driven by its breakout originals and inventive movie franchises. In 2010, AMC became the only network to ever win the Golden Globe® Award for Best Television Series - Drama three years in a row. AMC also reigns as the only basic cable network to win back-to-back Primetime Emmy® Awards for Outstanding Drama Series and received the Peabody Award for television excellence two years in a row, first for Mad Men and followed by Breaking Bad. During Collier’s tenure, AMC’s digital arm has also experienced tremendous growth. AMCtv.com’s web traffic has seen exponential gains and the digital business has expanded with the acquisition of the critical favorites Filmsite.org and Filmcritic.com.
Two of the brand-defining original series launched by Collier are Mad Men and Breaking Bad. AMC’s drama series Mad Men premiered in 2007 to unprecedented critical acclaim for the network. Seasons two and three met with equal raves, being called "TV’s best show" (Rolling Stone) and "…a glorious display of TV storytelling…" (The Associated Press). AMC’s drama series Breaking Bad has also received strong critical acclaim, including award-winning writer Stephen King calling Breaking Bad "the best scripted show on TV," as quoted in Entertainment Weekly. The series made history as the first basic cable network to win the Primetime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series (Bryan Cranston as Walter White) for two consecutive years. Under Collier’s direction, the network is producing several new originals, including Rubicon, a conspiracy thriller series that focuses on an analyst at a New York City think-tank; The Walking Dead, six-part series based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman; and the pilot The Killing (working title), based on the wildly successful Danish series Forbrydelsen. Collier also strengthened AMC’s commitment to commemorating favorite films from every genre and decade with the development of ratings-driving movie franchises, including AMC Celebrities and AMC’s highly rated "AMC Can’t Get Enough…" weeks.
A veteran cable network executive, Collier joined AMC from Court TV (now truTV) with a track record of driving revenue and business growth. At Court TV, he served as executive vice president and general manager of advertising sales where he more than quintupled its revenue from national ad sales, dramatically improved its position within the industry, and played a key role in broadening the network’s appeal beyond courtroom programming and into entertainment programming in the investigation genre. During his time with Court TV, Collier’s focus was on sales through the creation of industry-oriented research programs that improved the measurement of audience engagement and advertising effectiveness. He developed and implemented initiatives that leveraged the unique characteristics of Court TV’s audience to provide enhanced ROI and superior accountability metrics for advertisers and business partners.
Prior to Court TV, Collier held senior roles at Oxygen Media, A&E Networks and TeleRep.
Collier earned his Master in Business Administration degree from Columbia University and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bucknell University. He is a Cable Advertising Bureau (CAB) board member. Among other accolades, Collier was honored with the 2009 Vanguard Award for Young Leadership and named to Crain’s 40 Under 40 class of 2009 rising stars.
Collier is also involved in civic activities, among them a senior board position at CancerCare, an organization devoted to helping not just cancer patients but also those around them touched by the disease. He is married and has four children.
